Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Cartava is a gift card wallet app for iOS, operated by Cartava App LLC ("Cartava," "we," "us"), based in Westerville, Ohio, USA. This policy explains what information the app handles and how.

2. Information stored on your device

When you use Cartava, the following information is stored locally on your iPhone:

• Gift card details — retailer names, card numbers, barcodes, balances, and any notes you add.
• Transaction history — balance updates you record after purchases.
• Reminder settings — birthday, holiday, and inactivity-fee reminder preferences. Sensitive values such as your birthday are stored in the iOS Keychain, which is encrypted by Apple at the hardware level.
• App preferences — settings like your nearby-alert radius and Face ID lock.

This data never leaves your device. Cartava has no user accounts and no server-side database of your cards.

3. Location data

If you enable nearby alerts, Cartava uses Apple's on-device location services and geofencing to notify you when you're near a store where you have a gift card. Your location is processed entirely on your device by iOS. Cartava does not collect, transmit, store, or log your location history, and we cannot see where you are or where you've been. You can disable location access at any time in iOS Settings, and the rest of the app will keep working normally.

4. Camera access

Cartava uses your camera only to scan gift card barcodes and QR codes, and to recognize retailer names printed on cards. Scanning happens on-device using Apple's Vision framework. Images are processed in real time and are not saved or uploaded.

5. Notifications

With your permission, Cartava sends local notifications for nearby-store alerts, reminders, and inactivity-fee warnings. These are generated on your device. We do not operate a push-notification server and do not maintain device tokens tied to your identity.

6. What we don't collect

• No name, email, phone number, or account credentials — there is no sign-up.
• No location history or movement tracking.
• No advertising identifiers, and no third-party advertising or tracking SDKs.
• No sale, rental, or sharing of personal data with data brokers — ever.

7. Analytics and diagnostics

We may receive aggregated, anonymized statistics from Apple (such as download counts and opt-in crash reports through the standard App Store framework). These are controlled by your iOS "Share With App Developers" setting and are never tied to your gift card data.

8. Children's privacy

Cartava is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone — including children — because the app collects no personal information at all.

9. Your rights and choices

Because your data lives on your device, you're always in control:

• Access and edit — view or change any card directly in the app.
• Delete — remove individual cards in the app, or delete the app to remove everything. There is no copy on our servers to request deletion of.
• Permissions — revoke camera, location, or notification access anytime in iOS Settings.

10. Security

Your gift card data benefits from iOS device encryption when your phone is locked, and you can add Face ID protection inside Cartava for an extra layer. We recommend using a strong passcode and keeping iOS up to date.

11. Changes to this policy

If we update this policy, we'll change the "Last updated" date above and, for significant changes, notify you in the app. Continued use of Cartava after changes means you accept the updated policy.
